All About Me
Hi, my name will not be disclosed in this blog, but I've chosen to go by Catherine or Cat as my pseudonym. A little bit about me... I grew up on the south east coast so am very familiar with the beach and southern hospitality. I have 5 half siblings and am the youngest child of both sides of my family and the ONLY child my parents had together. Growing up, I was a friendship bracelet making, cookie baking, horse girl🐴🍪. I haven't changed much and still enjoy sewing, cooking, and animals (especially goats 😄).
I don't consider myself very technologically advanced, I've even earned the honorary title of luddite👵 from my 57 year old mother. Although I'm not one to dive into technology, I have found some useful aspects to it in the educational realm. My favorite aspect about technology is the ability to organize documents. I recently began typing notes on my computer and have found it easier to keep track of notes. But, I've read studies that typing is not as effective as learning as writing, so to combat this, I recently spent a wonderful $400 on a new Ipad and Apple Pencil😶 in hopes of combining traditional note taking and technology. I also enjoy adding digital artwork and pictures to online documents that would have otherwise been dull. Technology has most certainly made education and learning more streamline. One aspect I do not like about technology is when teachers and parents use it as a punishment or as a tool to be overly intrusive into a child's life (e.g. Dojo, homework grades texts).
I use a few different resources to help me study. Canvas is where I always look first to see if my professor posted any helpful material. I also use Quizlet as a quick way to review definitions, but I definitely don't see it as a main studying tool. I recently bought Goodnotes and have found it somewhat helpful in organizing my notes, although sometimes I find it a bit glitchy. I also try to find others to study with, but am a complete introvert so I find it very difficult to find a study partner. Every now and then, I can force my mom or boyfriend to listen to me read my notes aloud as explaining to others is a great study strategy for me.
