A lot of K-12 schools require teachers to have a page on the school website. I remember when my high school began requiring teachers to post all of their academic information on the school website. At first, It was a bit difficult to navigate, but after I figured out where everything was, I began to like the idea of teachers having a website. Without having any school materials, with a teacher website, a student can quickly look up the syllabus or see upcoming assignments. A teacher website also allows teachers to send out reminders and announcements to students. Teachers can also provide resources such as helpful educational software or videos (such as Khan academy) that pertain to their class to help students further their learning. Below I've provided a screenshot of one of my favorite high school teacher's website page. As you can see, since COVID, other features, such as online chat rooms have been made available on teacher websites. Below Mrs. Henry provides words of encouragement to her students.
Many people don't realize how much work goes into being a teacher. Beyond the long days of helping students learn, teachers also have to create lesson plans, go to meetings, and grade papers. That's why technology can be so useful for teachers. I personally like the software known as Nearpod. Nearpod is completely free for teachers and students to use. It offers tons of lesson plan ideas and videos to help teachers create an engaging classroom. I also like that there are filters for grades, subjects, and activity types. https://nearpod.com/t/science/kindergarten/the-winter-season-k1-L85928207
Another platform teachers can use is a wiki such as PBWorks. I feel like this platform has a lot of potential but just hasn't been updated recently. The features are all there such as editing, organizing, and adding group members, but the design of the website could be more streamlined and more user friendly. I can definitely see myself using PBWorks in the classroom. If I was a middle or high school teacher I could upload documents for the students to read. I could also have students create their own wiki on a topic we are discussing in class such as the solar system or mammals. The wiki could also be a good way to organize lesson plans for easy access in the future.
